Humanist 777 is a font from Bitstream library. This distinguished design was initially prepared by Adrian Frutiger for his friend Alfred de Volz at Sofratype, the Parisian manufacturer of linecasting matrices. The working drawings were made by Andre Guertler; the face was called Concorde, and was released in 1968. Linotype purchased Sofratype, and the face was withdrawn the following year. Rights to the design were returned to Frutiger. The design re-appeared in 1970/71 as the much admired signage for the Charles de Gaulle airport at Roissy outside Paris, and is now becoming a standard on the French auto routes. Once again purchased from Frutiger by Linotype, it was re-released as the typeface Frutiger in 1976. It has proved comfortable, immediately legible for signs, and readable for long passages of text.
